The Trefoil Guild is a non-uniformed section of Girlguiding UK and enables men and women to maintain their links with Guiding. It aims to keep alive the spirit of the Promise and law and offers practical help to Guiding. The Trefoil Guild offers a warm welcome to everyone, male of female, aged 18 and over, whether or not they have previously been connected with Girlguiding.

We have 5 Guilds within Cambridgeshire West, taking part in activities that result in a positive benefit to the community, but a large part of the programme is devoted to having plain old-fashioned fun! Many Cambs West Guilds are involved in the Dark Horse Venture.

The Dark Horse Venture International Award Scheme is for people aged 50 and over and presents opportunities to get involved in new activities, hobbies and studies and encouragement  to those taking part achieve their personal best.

Participants join the scheme by taking up an activity that they have not seriously tried before, then set themselves a goal or targets within the chosen subject and continue to undertake their venture for at least 12 months.

There are Five categories which people can participate in and any activity will fit into one of these. Those who achieve a certificate in any four different categories receive the Dark Horse Venture Gold Award.

Giving and Sharing  - focuses on voluntary work or community projects and programmes.

Active and Creative – outdoors or indoors any kind of sport, hobby, study, art or craft can be included.

Tomorrow’s World – conservation, restoration and working with young people to pass on skills for future generations.

History and Heritage – projects on national, local or personal history and hertitage, from Bach to Beatles, battlefields to bottled beer the opportunities are endless.

Peoples and Nations – encourages people to look and find out about their immediate changing communities as well as cultures right around the world.

For more information about the scheme please contact the Cambs West Trefoil / DHV Co-ordinator via the County Office.
