Public Relations is about communicating within the Guiding Movement, but also about communicating with outside organisations and the public to reinforce the image and reputation of Guiding.

Useful facts about Guiding which can be Quoted to the Media and other Non-Members -
Girlguiding UK is the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in the UK with over 620,000 members and is part of a world-wide Movement with more than 10 million members. Guiding aims to enable girls and young women to fulfill their potential to take an active and responsible role in society through its distinctive, stimulating and enjoyable programme of activities delivered by trained adult volunteer leaders. It gives girls and young women aged from 5 to 25 the opportunity to try new things and to make new friends in a fun and safe environment.
Guides are individuals; each girl has her own talents, skills and interests - unique to her. Guiding challenges her to use and extend these abilities in a positive way. The scope and flexibility of the programme, designed to meet the needs of each girl, reflect this emphasis on personal achievement. Guiding is about doing one's best, not about meeting set targets in a strict time limit. As Baden-Powell said, 'The only standard that counts is the amount of effort on the part of the individual.'
The girls and young women are helped to achieve their full potential by adult leaders in Guiding who have discovered that being a Guider gives them the opportunity to play an active role in a caring, sharing environment by helping, encouraging and promoting young people. Guiders are trained volunteer leaders. Any woman between her 18th and 65th birthdays can become a Guider, as long as she is willing and able to make the Guide Promise and undertake the necessary training.
Guiding offers both its young people and leaders the chance of making a personal contribution to the future and, at the same time, of widening their own horizons and friendships. Together with the hard work and the commitment there is lots of fun!
