Commissioners are responsible for the organisation and development of Guiding in their area. They are women aged between 18 and 65 who enjoy working with other adults. They complete the Leadership Qualification and a Commissioner Induction training programme, and wear a uniform appropriate to the occasion or activity. A new Commissioner is supported through the Commissioner Induction programme by a mentor, other local Commissioners, and the County Commissioner. Credit is given for prior knowledge/experience.
The District Commissioner
The District Commissioner is the point of contact for members, parents, and others in her District area. She builds a District Team which usually includes a Secretary, Administrator, and a Treasurer. She may also appoint a District Assistant who will carry out specific tasks to help her. She will hold regular District Meetings enabling all local Unit Guiders to get together, and will endeavour to ensure that each Unit is run well.
The term of appointment for a District Commissioner is usually 3 years from completion of the Commissioner Induction programme.
The Division Commissioner
The Division Commissioner manages the Districts in her Division and represents local Guiding. She builds a Division Team of the District Commissioners and specialist Advisers, and usually appoints a Secretary and Treasurer. She represents the Division on the County Executive and is a Trustee of Girlguiding Cambridgeshire West. She will hold regular Division Meetings enabling the Division Team to get together.
The term of office for a Division Commissioner is usually 5 years from completion of the Commissioner Induction programme.
The County Commissioner
The County Commisioner is responsible for the administration and development of Guiding in her County including its finances, its personnel, running the County Office and managing its staff, and promoting a positive public image. She builds a team of Commissioners, and specialist Advisers and Appointment Holders who carry out the day-to-day tasks, and is supported by the County President, the County Administrator, the County Financial Administrator, and one or more Assistant County Commissioners. She chairs the County Executive and is a Trustee of Girlguiding Cambridgeshire West. She represents Cambridgeshire West on the Anglia Region Executive, and is also a Trustee of Girlguiding Anglia.
The term of appointment for a County Commissioner is 5 years with an option to extend it for a further 2 years.
